Description
Striking a pose, a dancer pauses from a whirl of movement. Life is a dance.
Magenta, the artwork, invites the viewer to step into this dance, to strike a pose of one’s own, and to swirl with grace and beauty through the events of each day, the challenges of each moment, the situations that come toward us with every breath that we take.
It doesn’t matter whether or not we are actual dancers, whether or not – like the woman in Magenta – we are confident on our feet, move with a swish of bright fabric, we attract the attention of those who see us because of our outward grace and beauty.
Because that grace and beauty? It starts on the inside, just like our mothers always told us, but because the “real world” doesn’t seem to work that way, we never believed her. But as we get older and we see increasingly that many of the things our mother, or grandmother, or aunt, kept telling us aren’t so far off the mark after all, maybe it’s time to review that “inner beauty” thing.
On rare occasions, we all meet someone who, just by being in the room next to us, promotes an inner calm. There’s something about them that draws us, that makes us want to be around them, and sometimes it isn’t until later that we realize, “You know, they’re really not that good looking – not in a movie star sort of way – but there’s something about them that is indefinably, but very definitely, beautiful.”
So it is with us, with the inner dancer within all of us – this person of grace, poise, confidence, and beauty who awakens each day knowing that we are not perfect, knowing that we do not control every element of our existence, but knowing, also, that we walk straight, we stand tall, and when we enter the room, we do so with the aplomb and classical grace of the dancer.
Inside, we are the dancer of Magenta.

Bold strokes that reveal an intimate moment.
Steve Henderson replied:
Yes, Virginia, you are right: Each element of a piece has an emotional visual part to play, and the brush strokes themselves can play a very dominant part.
